NEW STUDENTS

Where do I start?
We realize that beginning at a new school can be confusing, so we have tried to simplify the process by providing these Seven Steps to follow.

Step #1
Application
First fill out an application online at CCCApply or at Admissions and Records Office . Proceed to Step #2.
If you have been to another college and have already taken English & Math classes, skip to Step #4.

Step #2
Assessment
Next, go to the Assessment Center to take the English & Math assessment tests so you know at what level to start. This is necessary even if you are only planning to take a few classes. At this time you will be given Orientation information.

Step #3
Orientation/Counseling
We currently have 2 ways you can complete a New Student Orientation:
  • In Person Orientation -- In this Orientation you will get the results from your Assessment tests and learn some important information about getting started at Cypress College. You will also have an opportunity to meet with one of our counselors who will help you plan your classes for the upcoming semester.
  • Online Orientation -- This orientation will provide valuable information that the In Person Orientation provides, but without the one-on-one attention from a counselor. At the end of the Online Orientation there is a brief quiz to ensure that you have gained the information you will need to begin at Cypress College. Upon completion. print out the Quiz Page and take to a Counselor as proof of the online orientation. Bring your high school transcript and any college transcripts with you.

Step #4
Counseling/Transfer Students
Bring your transcripts (official or unofficial) to the Counseling Center.

Step #5
Financial Aid

Many students qualify for some type of financial aid. Start by completing the Financial Aid Application in the Financial Aid Office.

Step #6
Registration and Fees

Registraiton is by appointment only and is based on a priority system. NEW and RETURNING students will be mailed a postcard and e-mail which will indicate the date and time assigned for the student to register for classes online through WebStar.

When you register through theWebStar system you can pay for your classes with a credit card, or by mailing or bringing a check to the Admissions and Records Office. Registration fees must be paid within 72 hours after registering or you may be dropped from classes.

Step #7
Bookstore

After you have registered you will receive a print-out listing all your classes. At the Cypress College Bookstore you can buy all the books and supplies you'll need before classes begin.

Congratulations!

Now you are ready for class. Remember -- there is a wealth of information on our Counselor webpages including Frequently Asked Questions and Student Handbook. It is recommended that you see your counselor and have a look at our Recommended Classes for New Students
