Dear Student:                                                 

It is my pleasure to invite you to join the Black Studies Learning Community at Cypress College. The program is designed to help students be more successful, to complete their courses and programs, and to transfer to four-year colleges and universities.

This is the only community college program in North Orange County that provides instruction that has a focus on the Black experience, as well as providing special support services and enrichment activities, such as field trips, in order to help students be successful in achieving their goals.

The faculty members in the Black Studies Learning Community provide students with a caring, supportive environment.  They serve as advisors to students, helping them choose courses, programs, and future goals that match their needs and interests.

The program also enhances the diversity of the college and its curriculum.

Since the program began in the year 2000, I have enjoyed watching it evolve and succeed.  I have personally taken a special interest in the success of the program by serving as the administrator for this program for three years.
