How Do I ...Cite a Source?
In order to complete your research paper, you must include a list of the sources you used in the research process. These records are compiled into a list of citations. A citation is the detailed information about the book, article, web site, etc., you used in your research. The citation allows you to credit the authors of the sources you use. Your instructor will indicate which formatting guideline you need to use for your citations (MLA, APA, Turabian, or Chicago Style). It is important to properly acknowledge credit to your sources. Failing to do so is called plagiarism. To "plagiarize" means: [Source: Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/plagiarize ] To steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own To use (another's production) without crediting the source To commit literary theft To present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source The Cypress College Library subscribes to a citation builder tool named NoodleBib. NoodleBib helps students create their list of citations (works cited/bibliography) into MLA, APA, Chicago, or Turabian formatting style. NoodleBib prompts the user for the information for each citation necessary to create a works cited list and then creates a document ready to import into Word.
