Cypress Wins First Game of the Season over Solano

San Luis Obispo, Calif. – The Chargers bounced back from a loss Friday to open their season with a narrow win over Solano to move to the consolation championship Sunday. The Chargers edged out Solano by three, 63-60. Freshman guard Khalif Boyd, in just his second collegiate game, notched a double-double to lead the Chargers with 18 points and 10 rebounds while adding 4 steals along the way.
Boyd’s 18 points was a game high followed by freshman forward Kourtney Maxim’s 16 points with 6 rebounds. Freshman center Rodrigo Carbajal led the Chargers in rebounds again picking up 15 while blocking 4 shots and scoring 6 points. Freshman guard Eric Butler was the third Charger in double digits with 12.
Cypress moves on to the consolation championship of the Cuesta Tournament to face off with West Valley. West Valley got to the consolation championship with a loss to West Hills and then a win over Allan Hancock 72-65. The two face off Sunday at 1:00 pm at Cuesta College.
