Chargers Place Second at San Diego Mesa Tournament

San Diego, Calif. – The Chargers were looking for their first three game win streak Saturday in a preview of Orange Empire Conference competition against Santa Ana. The Dons proved to be too much to handle as Cypress settled for second in the 61-84 loss. Freshman guard David Holliday paced Cypress with 12 points and 4 rebounds.
The Dons came out hard coming out to an eleven point lead at half 36-25. Cypress was able to score 36 in the second half but Santa Ana picked up their pace as well scoring 48 to deal Cypress the 23 point loss.
Freshman guard Eric Butler matched Holliday’s 12 points while adding 3 assists. Sophomore forward Jeff Comminey was the third Charger in double digits with 10 points and 4 rebounds. Freshman guard Clinton Williams scored 9 with a team high 5 rebounds. Butler and freshman center Rodrigo Carbajal were both named to the all-tournament team.
The Chargers have a few days off before starting in on Orange Empire Conference play. Cypress starts out tough against the number two ranked Tigers of Riverside. Riverside is 17-1 coming off of a 79-64 win over Fresno with their only loss coming to number one ranked Bakersfield. The teams tip off conference play Wednesday at Cypress at 5:30 pm.
