Lasers too Much for Cypress to Handle

Irvine, Calif. – Cypress headed to Irvine Valley hoping to gain their first conference win against the also winless Lasers. The Chargers fell behind early and could not fulfill their hopes for that win with a loss to IVC 44-62. Freshman guard Khalif Boyd bolstered his scoring leader position for Cypress with 16 points going 6 for 12 from the field and added 3 steals.

The momentum swung IVC’s way from the beginning as the Lasers took control holding Cypress to 20 points in the first half and going up 32-20 at the break. Cypress picked up the pace but could still not keep up outscored 24-30 in the second half for the eventual 18 point loss.

Freshman center Rodrigo Carbajal was a force for Cypress inside collecting 10 rebounds while scoring 6 points. Freshman guard Eric Butler was the only other Charger in double digits with 10 points in addition to 3 assists and 5 rebounds. Cypress had trouble throughout handling the ball giving up 21 turnovers while only collecting 8 assists.

Cypress falls to 0-4 in conference in last place. The Chargers have one day to bounce back as they stay on the road to face Santa Ana next. The Dons are 18-5 overall and 2-2 in conference in fourth place coming off of a 99-93 win over OCC. The teams face off Friday at Santa Ana at 5:30 pm.
