Cypress Loses Ground in Second Half

Riverside, Calif. – Cypress gave second place Riverside a run for their money the last time around giving the Tigers a scare. This time, the Chargers were able to hang around early in the first half but los ground in the second losing to Riverside 56-43. Freshman guard Eric Butler led Cypress in scoring with 12 points and 5 rebounds.

Cypress held two brief leads early in the game, 2-0, and 6-5. The two were tied at seven before Riverside broke the tie with an 11-0 run over the next three minutes for the 18-7 lead. Riverside held control from there ending the half up eleven. Riverside kept up the pace to start the second going up as much as 19. Cypress chipped away but could not get close enough eventually losing by 13. The Chargers could not overcome a poor shooting night going 22.7% from the field while Riverside shot 40.7%.

Freshman guard Clinton Williams was the second Charger in double digits with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Freshmen Rodrigo Carbajal and Khalif Boyd combined for 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 steals.

Cypress has the weekend off before moving on to face Orange Coast again. OCC is fourth in conference with a record of 3-3. The last time they met, Cypress lost to the Pirates 66-72. The teams meet up again on Wednesday at 7:30 pm at Cypress.
