Chargers Pull out a Road Win

Whittier, Calif. – Cypress continued their road stint Wednesday heading up the 605 to Rio Hondo to face the 2-4 Roadrunners. The Chargers avenged last year’s loss to Rio with a five point win this time around 86-81. Sophomore guard Khalif Boyd led the Chargers with ten field goals for 26 points and five assists.

Boyd led the Chargers converting almost a third of the team’s total field goals on the day. Sophomore guard Eric Butler followed going seven for eight from the field for 17 points. Freshman forward Sean Starkey was the final Charger in double digits with 14 points. Freshman forward Devon McDonald was in double digits on the boards again with 11 while scoring nine points.

Cypress improves to 3-4 on the season and has a couple days off before heading south to Grossmont for a three-day tournament. The Chargers will start off with a rematch against Chaffey. The last time the teams met, Chaffey defeated Cypress 91-80. The two will face off again Friday at 2:00 pm at Grossmont.
