Chargers Even the Score with Chaffey

El Cajon, Calif. – After losing by eleven to Chaffey just two weeks earlier, Cypress was slated to face the Panthers yet again to open the first round of the Grossmont Tournament. This time around, Cypress was able to solve the high-scoring Chaffey puzzle by hitting 100 points in the 100-95 win. Freshman forward Devon McDonald paced the Chargers with his third double-double scoring ten points and grabbing 12 boards.

Cypress reached the century mark by having six players in double figures. The Chargers were led by sophomore guard Eric Butler with 24 points and eight rebounds. Butler was followed by fellow sophomore guard Khalif Boyd with 21 along with four assists and four steals. Freshman forward Sean Starkey went 7 for 13 from the field for 16 points. Freshman guard DuWayne King finished with a team high five assists to accompany his 11 points. Freshman guard Jerome Winston scored a season high 13 points missing just one field goal.

The Chargers improve to 4-4 and advance to the second round of the Grossmont tournament to face Southwestern. Southwestern is 4-5 and coming off of a first round 68-48 win over Barstow. The teams will face off Saturday at 6:00 pm at Grossmont.
