Chargers Unable to Slip by Glendale

Starkey hit a double-double Thursday evening.
Three point loss moves Cypress into consolation bracket.

San Diego, Calif. – After a long break and a huge upset win over L.A. City, the Chargers prepared to start again at the San Diego Mesa Tournament. Cypress opened with Glendale in the first round and were just edged out in a 69-66 loss. Freshman forward Sean Starkey led Cypress with 21 points and ten rebounds for a double-double while also adding three blocked shots.

Cypress struggled in the first half scoring just 30 points going 10 for 34 from the field. The Chargers stepped it up in the second half going fifty percent from the field and scoring 36 but it was not enough losing by three. Sophomore guard Khalif Boyd followed Starkey with 18 points, three assists, and three steals.

The Chargers fall to 7-9 and move to the consolation bracket of the San Diego Mesa tournament. Cypress will face host San Diego Mesa next. San Diego Mesa is 3-10 and is coming off of a three point loss to Victor Valley. Cypress and Mesa will face off Friday at 2:00 pm at San Diego Mesa.
