Cypress, Calif. – Cypress finished off their toughest week of conference by facing fourth ranked Fullerton after losing to first ranked Irvine Wednesday night. The Chargers found themselves in a similar situation behind the entire way losing to the Hornets 82-68. Freshman forward Devon McDonald led the Chargers with a double-double pulling down 16 rebounds while scoring 13 points to go along with six assists.
Fullerton jumped ahead taking the lead before Cypress came back to tie it with a jumper by sophomore guard Khalif Boyd. The teams exchanged buckets again for Cypress’s second and final tie in the game. The Hornets took the lead from there but Cypress stayed close ending the half 39-33 in favor of Fullerton. The Hornets inched away in the second half extending their lead to double digits for the eventual 14 point win.
Boyd led the team in scoring with 23 plus four steals. Sophomore guard Eric Butler added 13 points and six rebounds.
The Chargers fall to 11-12 and 2-3 in conference. They take the weekend off before hosting seventh ranked Riverside Wednesday. The Tigers are 18-6 and 2-2 in conference coming off of a 94-57 win over Santa Ana. The two face off Wednesday at Cypress at 5:30 pm.
