Cypress, Calif. – The Chargers are in a must win situation from here on out in hopes of an invitation to the playoffs. Cypress faced off with the Lasers of Irvine Valley Friday, led all the way and held on for the 71-63 win. Sophomore guard Brae Butler moved up the eighth on Cypress’s career scoring record book with a career high 33 points to go along with 9 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Lasers had their only lead to start the game with a three-pointer. Cypress battled back, took the lead, and battled to as much as thirteen up. IVC finished the first half with a 10-3 run to end the half with Cypress up by six. The Lasers stayed in it in the second coming as close as one early before Cypress jumped out to a fourteen point lead with six minutes remaining. The Lasers could not catch Cypress from there giving Cypress the eventual eight point win.

Sophomore guard Marissa Bravo finished with 12 points and 4 steals. Freshman forward Saw-Ann Bryan continues to improve her offensive output with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Renee Stewart and Corianne Felix combined for 9 points and 7 rebounds.

Cypress must win their last two games for a chance for a three-way third place tie with Santa Ana and Saddleback. Cypress must play and beat both next week for that chance. Cypress starts with the Dons of Santa Ana first. Cypress had a rough go of it last time around going down 20-0 to start the game before coming back but not far enough for the eight point loss. The Dons are 7-5 in fourth place, ranked twelfth in Southern California, and coming off of a 14 point loss to OCC. The teams meet again Wednesday at Cypress this time for Sophomore Night at 5:30 pm.
