Cerritos, Calif. – Cypress travelled across town to Cerritos Wednesday night for their pre-Thanksgiving face-off with the Falcons. Cypress looked strong keeping pace with the sixth ranked Falcons in the first half but lost steam in the second half losing 77-54. Freshman guard Tara Smith paced Cypress with 11 points going three for five from the field and five for six from the stripe.

The outlook was grim for Cypress as Cerritos jumped out to an early 31-21 lead. The Chargers pushed back going on a 13-3 run to tie the game at 34 as the first half wound down. With a few seconds left in the half, Cypress had the ball and a chance to take the lead. They could not hold on to the ball turning it over and allowing Cerritos to score for the 36-34 lead. Everything went down hill from there allowing the Falcons to score the first 16 points of the second half which was enough for the eventual 23 point win. Cypress was killed on the boards grabbing just 28 while Cerritos had 62. Freshman guard Sequana Norris also had 11 points and five rebounds. Freshman guard Candyce Carlberg was right behind with 10 points.

Cypress drops their fifth straight and has a long break before hosting their first home game in their annual Lady Charger Classic. Cypress will open the tournament by hosting American River in the first round. ARC is off to a good start at 4-1 coming off of a 74-63 win over Shasta. The two will meet up in the first round Friday at 8:00 pm.
