Coast Too Much to Handle for the Chargers

Cypress, Calif. – Cypress was coming off of their biggest win of the season to host the toughest team of the conference Wednesday. The Chargers hoped their momentum would continue but could not keep the powerful Orange Coast offense down losing 86-68. Sophomore forward Letisha Batiste paced Cypress with eight points and six rebounds.

The troubles for the Chargers started early. Despite scoring first, the Pirates got their offense going taking a 19 point lead after just eight minutes. From there, OCC maintained their lead going into half up 40-23. Cypress was unable to chip into the lead as the Chargers lost by 18.

Freshman guard Sequana Norris led the Chargers in scoring again with 15 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Freshman guard Michelle Salemi had eight points and four rebounds while freshman guard Candyce Carlberg also had eight points while collecting five rebounds.

Cypress falls to 7-17 and 3-6 in conference. They will head to Golden West Friday to face the Rustlers for the second time this season. The last time they met, Cypress won 92-59. The two will face up again Friday at Golden West at 7:00 pm.
