Second Straight Overtime Loss Plagues Cypress

Irvine, Calif. – Cypress found themselves in the same position as they had Wednesday night tied at the end of regulation and heading into overtime. The Chargers played their second straight overtime game and second overtime game of the season losing 76-73 to fourth place Irvine Valley. Cypress was led by freshman guard Sequana Norris who produced a double-double pouring in a game high 25 points with ten rebounds while taking four steals.

The Chargers battled their way to a two point lead at half, 27-25. The second half became a marathon with both teams going back and forth in a high scoring half with plenty of fouls. This time around, the Lasers outscored Cypress by two in the half ending regulation at a 66-66 tie. The overtime period became Cypress’s kryptonite again as Cypress was outscored 10-7 in the extra period for the three point loss.

Freshman point guard Michelle Salemi paced Cypress with 14 points including three three-pointers and four assists. Sophomore forward Saw-Ann Bryan followed with a near double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds along with three steals. Sophomore forward Letisha Batiste grabbed nine rebounds as well while scoring six points.

Cypress falls to 7-20 and 3-9 in conference heading into their final week of the season. The Chargers face third place Fullerton next. The last time they met, Cypress lost 75-68 at home. They will meet up again Wednesday at 5:30 pm at Fullerton.
