Comeback Attempt Thwarted in Final Minutes

Riverside, Calif. – The Chargers headed into their final game of the season Friday travelling to Riverside to face the Tigers. Cypress fell behind early in the second half but fought for a comeback that came up just short losing 82-75. Cypress was led by Cypress’s leading scorer, freshman Sequana Norris with a game high 32 points with four points, three assists, and seven rebounds.

Cypress put up a fight in the first half going back and forth against the Tigers resulting in six lead changes. Riverside went into the half with a four point lead. The Chargers were caught on their heels to start the second half letting the Tigers run with a 19-5 streak. Riverside had as much as a 17 point lead. With 4:55 left in the Charger season, Cypress put up one more fight going on a 9-0 run to close within one with 2:42 left. The run would come up empty as Cypress turned the ball over and Riverside took back control for the eventual seven point lead.

Freshman guard Candyce Carlberg finished her career at Cypress with 15 points and three assists. Freshman guard Michelle Salemi closed out her freshman season with 12 points including three three-pointers and four assists. Sophomore forward Letisha Batiste pulled down eight rebounds and six points.

The Chargers finish their season 7-22 and 3-11 in conference in seventh place.
