Charger Comeback Falls Short in Loss to Southwestern

Cypress, Calif. – Cypress started strong with two goals in the first half only to give up two for the 2-2 tie with Pasadena. This is the second time Cypress has let a two goal lead slip away for a tie. Sophomore defender Luis Macias scored the first goal for Cypress, his third of the year.

The Chargers started quick with their first goal in the first five minutes of the game. Freshman forward Pedro Ochoa took a long pass from Jay Kinnear to give Cypress the early 1-0 lead. Cypress continued the scoring with Macias’s goal from freshman midfielder Edgar Mendoza near the end of the half. This was Mendoza’s fourth assist. The Lancers woke up quick and two minutes later scored their first goal to end the half at 2-1 Cypress. Cypress could not generate anymore offense but Pasadena capitalized with a goal in the middle of the second half to tie the game at two. Freshman keeper Giovanni Guzman made several saves towards the end of the game to preserve the lead for Cypress. Guzman finished with eleven saves.

The Chargers will take the weekend off before hosting Cerritos Tuesday at 3:00 pm. Cerritos is 3-2 coming off of a big 8-0 win over San Bernardino.
