Cypress, Calif. – The Chargers were coming off of a tough loss and a tie but picked themselves up against Cuyamaca winning 3-0. Cypress kept a steady pace and kept up a stifling defense to pick up the win. Freshman forward Jay Kinnear picked up a goal and an assist to lead the Chargers.
Cypress started in the first half as Kinnear took a header in for the first goal from freshman forward Pedro Ochoa giving Cypress the 1-0 lead at half. The second half started with a goal by freshman forward Christian Ortiz from Kinnear. The Chargers’ third and final goal came from freshman midfielder Marco Vargas. The Charger defense allowed no major threats and the goalies did not have to make any saves preserving the shutout. "We played a solid and complete game" said head coach Rod Petkovic, "it was an enjoyable game to see everyone stick to their assignments".
Cypress heads on the road for a three game stand starting Tuesday. The Chargers will head to Glendale College to face the 0-6 Vaqueros. The teams face off Tuesday at 5:00 pm at Glendale.
