Flurry of Early Second Half Goals Does in the Chargers

Ricardo Gonzalez Gonzalez scored Cypress’s only goal Tuesday.
Scoreless first half tie broken with six goals in the second half.

Chula Vista, Calif. – Cypress traveled south for their first road game Tuesday to face Southwestern. The first half ended in a scoreless tie and the second half started with a flurry of scoring in Southwestern’s favor leaving Cypress with their third loss 1-5. Freshman forward Ricardo Gonzalez scored his first collegiate goal to lead the Chargers.

After the scoreless first half, Southwestern scored right at the start of the second half at the 47th minute to take the 1-0 lead. The Jaguars did not waste their momentum scoring a goal just three minutes later. The Chargers fought back with a goal at the 52nd minute from Gonzalez with an assist by Gerardo Garcia. Southwestern would not fold scoring their third goal two minutes later and then two more in the 60th and 67th minutes. Sophomore goalie Giovanni Guzman played 65 minutes allowing two goals and making three saves. Freshman keeper Carlos Gutierrez played 25 minutes making one save and allowing three goals.

Cypress stays on the road Friday heading to Pasadena to face the Lancers. Pasadena is 0-1 coming off of a 2-4 loss to Oxnard. The two will meet up at Pasadena Friday at 4:00 pm.
