Chargers Let Five Slip By in Road Loss

Orange, Calif. – Cypress traveled for the first conference road game Tuesday facing first place Santiago Canyon. The Chargers were looking for their first conference win but could not come through allowing five Hawks goals in the 5-2 loss. Freshman midfielder Gerardo Garcia scored his first collegiate goal to pace Cypress.

The Chargers had a rough start allowing Santiago Canyon to grab a 3-0 lead. Cypress was able to score twice with Garcia’s goal and another from freshman forward Alfredo Lenon but it was not enough as the Hawks finished with five goals. Sophomore keeper Giovanni Guzman and freshman Carlos Gutierrez split time in the goal making four saves each.

Cypress falls to 0-2-1 in conference and is in sixth place. They have a couple days off before going for their first conference win again at home against Fullerton. The Hornets are tied with Cypress at 0-2-1 in conference coming off of a 0-0 tie against Golden West. The two face off at Cypress on Friday at 4:00 pm.
