Cypress, Calif. – Cypress closed out the first half of the Orange Empire Conference facing Irvine Valley for the first time this season. The Chargers hoped to pull out their first conference win of the year but were met with another unfortunate loss 2-0. Sophomore keeper Giovanni Guzman was put to the test making eight saves on the day.
The two teams battled through the first half with the Lasers as the aggressors most of the time. Guzman and the Charger defense were able to hold IVC scoreless as the first half ended in a 0-0 tie. The tie would not last as the Lasers opened the second half with a score to take the lead. IVC added another at the 54th minute for the 2-0 lead. Cypress became more aggressive from there attacking the IVC goal. Freshman forward Gerardo Garcia made several near misses off the post and just wide as Cypress was unable to chip away.
Cypress falls to 3-9-3 and 0-5-2 in conference. They will take a couple days off before starting the second half of conference facing Golden West again. Last time they faced off, the Rustlers defeated the Chargers 3-1. The teams will meet up again on Friday at 7:00 pm at Golden West.
