Huntington Beach, Calif. – Cypress headed to Golden West Friday to face off with rival Golden West. Though still winless in conference, the Chargers scored a moral victory with an upset tie of the Rustlers 1-1. Sophomore defender Abraham Esparza was the hero for Cypress scoring the lone Charger goal.

Earlier this season when Cypress hosted Golden West, the Rustlers managed a 3-1 victory over the disappointed Chargers. This time, Cypress fought another loss and came up with the tie thanks in part to the assist by sophomore midfielder Jesse Pridmore. Sophomore keeper Giovanni Guzman and freshman Carlos Gutierrez split time in the goal with three saves a piece.

Cypress’s record stands at 3-9-4 and 0-5-3 in conference. They will stay on the road to face first place Santa Ana. Last time the two faced off the Chargers were able to pull off a historic tie 1-1 in another upset. Cypress will try to pull of the same or better, this time at Santa Ana on Tuesday at 3:00 pm.
