Cypress, Calif. – Cypress hosted the favored Pirates of Orange Coast Friday trying to prevent another one goal loss. The Chargers improved on the last result battling to a 0-0 tie. Freshman defender Alberto Quintero prevented a Pirate goal early in the second half to save the tie. With sophomore keeper Giovanni Guzman pulled out of the goal, Quintero was the last line of defense springing up to head the game winning goal out of the box.

The Chargers had several chances to score controlling possession for most of the first half. Freshman forward Jesse Pridmore took a rebounded ball off the Pirate’s goalie and scored it but was called offsides. Later, freshman forward Gerardo Garcia took a corner kick and headed it at the goal but was stopped by the post. Orange Coast increased their intensity taking several shots on goal towards the end of the game. Guzman stepped up and made several acrobatic saves to protect the Charger goal and the tie.

The Chargers are now 3-11-5 and 0-7-4 in conference. They have the weekend off before another three game week. They will start with Santiago Canyon on Monday. The last time the teams met, Santiago defeated Cypress 5-2. Cypress will host the Hawks Monday at 4:00 pm on Monday.
