Cypress, Calif. – After allowing a last second goal in their season opener, Cypress allowed their opponents to score a tying goal again in a 1-1 tie against Southwestern. The Chargers hoped their lead would sustain till the end but the tie still shows a vast improvement from their 5-1 loss to the Jaguars a year earlier. Freshman keeper Kayvon Mehranian withstood steady aggressive attacks from the Southwestern offense making twelve saves while allowing just one goal.

The Chargers battled through a tough first half. Sophomore defender Alberto Quintero saved a goal early getting behind Mehranian to boot out a would-be goal. After a 0-0 tie at half, Cypress turned it on in the second. Sophomore midfielder Jesus Lopez led the charge kicking an assist to sophomore forward Ricardo Gonzalez who headed in Cypress’s only goal. This is Gonzalez’s second goal in as many games this season. Just ten minutes later, Southwestern went on the attack and evened the score. The 1-1 tie remained as time ran out dealing Cypress their second tie.

Cypress’s record goes to 0-0-2 as they have a week off before heading to their first road game against Santa Barbara. The two face off next Tuesday at Santa Barbara at 7:30 pm.
