Cypress, Calif. – The Chargers were looking to end their pre-season Friday on a high note with a win. Unfortunately, a lapse in the first half led to two Victor Valley goals which made the difference in Cypress’s 3-1 loss. Freshman midfielder Ernesto Escobedo gave Cypress their only goal as he scored off a penalty kick.

Cypress has made a habit out of collapsing in the second half. Unfortunately, the Chargers’ problems started in the first half this time around as they had a mental let down giving up two quick Victor Valley goals. The Chargers got more aggressive in the second half. Freshman midfielder Moises Rojas drew a foul in the box leading to Escobedo’s goal. Cypress vied for the tie but the Rams took advantage of a break down field and scored their third goal with just a few minutes left in the game. Freshmen James Tucker and Kayvon Mehranian split the time in the goal. Tucker made two saves while Mehranian made nine.

Cypress falls to 0-6-2 as they head into Orange Empire Conference play. The Chargers begin conference Tuesday at home facing Irvine Valley. IVC is 1-2-1 coming off of a 2-1 loss to Moorpark. The two face off to open conference Tuesday at 3:00 pm at Cypress.
