Cypress, Calif. – Cypress was looking for a fresh start Tuesday afternoon as they opened conference action against the Lasers of Irvine Valley. The Chargers showed promise early but could not come up with the goals losing 4-0.

The Chargers fell behind a goal early in the first half before getting their opportunity to score. Sophomore defender Kyle Gough sent a ball up field to freshman forward Nebiyu Girma. Girma ended up one-on-one against the IVC goalie who was forced into a hand ball outside of the box. The penalty resulted in a red card forcing the Lasers to play a man down for the rest of the game. Cypress’s one man advantage led to plenty of chances but kept coming up empty. IVC on the other hand got aggressive in the second half scoring three more. Cypress keeper freshman Kayvon Mehranian played the first 75 minutes making three saves. Freshman James Tucker finished it off with two saves in 15 minutes.

Cypress falls to 0-7-2 and 0-1 in conference. They have a couple days off before heading to Santa Ana Friday. The Dons are 6-3-1 after the preseason coming off of a 3-1 win over San Diego Mesa. The two meet up Friday at Santa Ana at 3:00 pm.
