1: What is Web Enhanced, Hybrid & Online Education?
In this section you will learn about the differences between Hybrid, Online, Web Enhanced education at Cypress College.
Online & Hybrid Courses
What is web-based teaching? It's taking the best teaching practices, new teaching and learning techniques, and applying them to online instruction. Courses that deliver web-based instruction are classified as either online or hybrid classes. Only courses that have been approved for instruction as an online/hybrid course through the campus curriculum process may count virtual instruction as official contact hours.
What is considered an online course?
A class offered entirely online or that meets face-to-face for one orientation and up to three exams is considered an online class at Cypress College.
What is a hybrid course?
Courses that provide instruction both on campus and online are considered hybrid. A hybrid course replaces at least one meeting time per week with online course activities. Typically, a hybrid class meets at least one time per week and continues the work online.
Web Enhanced Courses
Web enhanced courses at Cypress College are defined as face-to-face courses that use the web to deliver materials and not instruction online. Web enhanced courses offer students access to class materials and other resources online. While supplemental work, homework assignments, or other activities may also be offered online, web enhanced courses may not use Internet based resources or activities to replace required face-to-face instruction or in-seat contact hours.
Currently, Cypress College faculty may choose to use MyGateway or Blackboard to support web enhanced courses. To use Blackboard for web enhanced, please contact Jeanne Miller the Web Education Coordinator.
