title V at Cypress College
In 2003 Cypress College was awarded the U.S. Department of Education's Title V Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program grant for $2,250,000 to be funded over a five year period. The purpose of this federal grant is to assist Hispanic-serving institutions of higher education to expand their capacity to serve Hispanic and low-income students.
Project Overview: Title V at Cypress College
The main grant activity for Cypress College is embodied in one statement, “Closing
Institutional Gaps to enhance instructional and academic support programs,
and improve Hispanic student retention, persistence, and success.” While
this activity specifically targets Hispanic students, the three comprehensive
and integrated components of the grant will benefit all students at Cypress
College
Component 1 is designed to improve student learning outcomes through the
University Transfer Achievement Program (UTAP), which includes Freshman
Experience.
Component 2 will develop and implement an Academic Center for College Excellence
and Student Success (ACCESS) which will include the Peer Assisted Learning
(PAL) tutoring program.
Component 3 will provide faculty and staff development through the creation
of a Teaching Effectiveness Center
