You have chosen a wonderful profession and we are here to help you at Cypress College. Our Cypress College Teacher Preparation Program encompasses all the different levels of teaching.  Whether you would like to become an elementary school teacher, a middle school teacher, or a high school teacher, we have just the program for you. We also have specific information if you are interested in teaching at the college level, or in the field of Special Education.
 
For Academic Counseling please see Velia Lawson, the Teacher Preparation Counselor, at (714) 484-7178 to schedule an appointment.  She can help you choose the best classes for your particular transfer needs. If you have any other questions, please feel free to come by the Teacher Preparation Office, located on the second floor Humanities Building , Social Science Division Office, room H-259.

STEP 1. Teacher Preparation Application
Please fill out a Teacher Preparation Application. Applications can be downloaded here, and are also located in the Social Science Division Office outside of room H-259, or you may download it from the website. You may return it to Dennis Davino, the Teacher Preparation Coordinator, or anyone staff in the Social Science Division Office. You are strongly encouraged to enroll in the COUN 120 class your first semester.

STEP 2. Assessment
Take the English/Math assessment tests to determine your skill level. The Assessment Office is located B-160 and their phone number is (714) 484-7223Make sure you have your student number before you come in for assessment. Check the assessment website for time and availability, and then click the Assessment button at the top.

STEP 3. Counselor
After you receive your assessment results, see Velia Lawson the Teacher Preparation Counselor for academic advising and class selection. Make an appointment for the Fall or Spring semester through her Administrative Assistant Pat Naylor at (714) 484-7178, or stop by the Humanities Counseling Office on the 2nd floor of the Humanities Building. Summer counseling is available in the Counseling Center in the Business Building 1st Floor in Room B115, or you may call (714) 484-7015. Here is the counseling website.

STEP 4. Coordinator
If you have any questions about the CBEST Exam or the CSET Exam, you may see Dennis Davino, the Teacher Preparation Coordinator in the Social Science Division Office in Room H-259. Also, if you have a criminal record of any kind, please see him to make sure you will be able to qualify for a teaching credential.

STEP 5. Future Educators Club
You are encouraged to join the Future Educators Club on campus for aspiring teachers. Bryan Seiling is the club advisor. Each semester, the club meets every other Thursday at 2 p.m. in H-318. Visit the Club's blog.
